Hey! I’m Layne. I’m 17. I live in a small Nebraska town (population 5,000), and I have lived here basically my whole life. I would love to live somewhere on the beach, but for now this will do. I’m a really artistic person and I love all forms of art. I also love skateboarding, riding my bike and anything that keeps me active.
Some of the things I enjoy are gymnastics and dance. I have been doing both for a few years now and I enjoy doing them a lot. I find that for me at least doing dance and gym gives me a lot of purpose. Gymnastics is a really physically demanding sport and I have learned a lot of discipline from it. Not only that but I have also made a lot of long lasting friendships in my time at the studio and that’s really valuable to me. My favorite part of dance and gymnastics is the way I can feel the music going through my body when I move. I feel very free when I dance. I really love all art forms in general. Art really helps me get my creative juices flowing. I find creating art is the best cure for my boredom. I just do it for fun. One of my favorite mediums to work with is acrylic paint. I have quite the collection of art supplies in my room, and i have painted tons of canvases. I also have 5 tattoos and 8 piercings, so I think its pretty clear what my favorite way to express myself is. I work at a tattoo shop, so I get to learn all about that art form, and I get to experience a lot of art in my day to day life. In addition to tattoo art and piercings, I also enjoy creating creepy and crazy makeup looks. Overall, these types of art are fun and creative, and I find them the best way to express myself. I have been unschooled for most of my life. Unschooling is where you find a way to learn from your interests. I really like it because I get to do the things I love for school. For example, as a child I was outside a lot and I learned all about nature and the world around me. As I got older I got into dance and gymnastics and I learned about fitness and health through that. As I got even older I was able to express myself through art, tattoos and working. My mom has also worked really hard on finding me a way to learn that’s fun, and I’m very grateful for that. I enrolled in Pacific Sands Academy a few months ago, and in that time Shauna and I realized that it would be in my best interest to start working full time so we have decided to graduate me early. These last few months I have worked really hard to get here and I’m proud of all my accomplishments. My goal for my future is to work at a tattoo shop or even maybe own one some day. I think that would be really cool. Working in the art field is my first priority but if that ends up not working out for me I would love to be a forest ranger at a national park. One of the ones that goes into the wild for days on end studying the animals and plant life. Over all I’m excited to be graduating and I’m so ready to see where this wild ride takes me. |
